Straight out of college, I went to work with a gardening magazine. It was a small staff of three that designed, edited, groomed new authors and photographers, and in a pinch created content. It is an experience I absolutely loved and it changed the direction of my career. It also gave me great experience doing just about everything that goes into producing a publication and many years later I still write and contribute to magazines; Green Scene Magazine, Organic Gardening, Fine Gardening, Horticulture, Rhode Island Magazine.
Newsletters (and reports) often get a bad rap, but I think it is unfair. Editorship of a newsletter (or a report) is an extremely important job. It is one of the public faces of any group or business. It is important for the publication to be professional in content and appearance. This doesn't mean it has to be boring, bland or banal. My philosophy is that small does not have to mean less; less creative, less well written or less visual. I bring this philosophy to all my projects.
