Furniture Design
“Why is everything so big?” Notoriously picky, sometimes I just can’t find what I want. After years of restoring antiques, I have strong ideas about how things should be built and function. In my own home, I often will borrow ideas from my favorite antiques (or even cheap furniture) and make it with more contemporary or better quality materials. Here are a few of the pieces we currently have in our home.
Antique Restoration Projects
As a student I couldn’t afford to shop in the big furniture stores. But I didn’t want to live in empty rooms either. So I scoured local junk shops and consignment stores for furniture that I could fix up. I taught myself how to remove old paint and stain, how to glue and cane broken chairs, and how to repair wicker. I would work late at night, sometimes all night in a fervor, excited by the transformation. It wasn’t until I started skipping classes to finish projects that I realized this was something I truly loved to do, it wasn’t about furnishing my apartment or saving money anymore. Here are a few of my finished projects, of course, there are a few still in process…
